This was delivered at the second Educators Congress of the new government. This is perhaps my most thoroughly prepared, substantive, and somewhat prophetic speech.

    For Melbourne symposium on Delors' Education for the Twenty-First Century, 1999 12 pages

    In 1997. UNESCO launched the landmark document, "Education for the 21st Century," calling on education to be built on four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together. This was the keynote speech for the first pillar at the Melbourne launching of the document for Asia.

    CEAP was celebrating its golden jubilee and hosting the regional meeting of the International Organization of Catholic Education. The talk first situates the work of Catholic education against the larger fast changing context of education for globalization, and then challenges institutions to come to a clearer understanding of what exactly makes their education Catholic.
