About Victor Ordonez

Victor Ordonez is currently Senior Education Fellow at the East West Center and Adjunct Faculty at the Education Foundations Department of the University of Hawaii.  Prior to this he was Principal Director at UNESCO, first as Director of Basic Education and Inter-Agency Coordinator at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, and then as Director of UNESCO’s Office for the Asia Pacific in Bangkok.

He has served at various times in different government and educational institutions in the Philippines:  as Deputy Minister or Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, of the Presidential Commission for Government Reorganization; as Chair or Vice-Chair of the Board of Higher Education, of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, of the Presidential Commission for Education Reform, and of various state colleges and universities.  His work in the academe includes being Dean of the Graduate Schools of Business and Education of De La Salle University, acting president of Maryknoll College, and professor or visiting lecturer at U.C.L.A. and a number of other institutions.

He has earned seven academic degrees, including a Ph.D. in Oriental Philosophy, done post-doctoral work at the Asian Institute of Management, the Harvard Business School, and the University of Wisconsin, and has been awarded three honorary doctorates, in humane letters, in pedagogy, and in humanties.
