- Language is of course more than a vocabulary and syntax to enable communication; imbedded in it is a particular way of organizing ideas and thinking, and a world view specific to the culture in which that language was developed. In this age of increasing contact and interdependency, recognizing this dimension of language in the teaching of second languages presents an opportunity for greater global understanding.
The Arrival of the First Filipinos in Hawaii

In preparation for the celebration of the centennial of the first Filipinos' arrival in Hawaii, the Council of Filipino Associations of Hawaii commissioned the publication of a coffee table commemorative book, with many pictures and some text. I was assigned to write up, journalistic style, the first half of that history.
